Education and Experience

Anna Maria Campbell, RD, MHSc, CDE

I've been a Registered Dietitian for over 10 years, working in different healthcare settings in Ontario and Alberta, including roles in primary care, diabetes education and bariatrics. One of my areas of speciality is diabetes and I am also a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). I have provided nutrition care to clients across the lifespan and supported people experiencing a variety of acute and chronic health concerns.

I obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition and Food from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), formerly Ryerson University, in 2013 and a Master of Health Science in Nutrition Communication from TMU in 2014. I am Registered with the College of Dietitians of Alberta.

I've always been interested in health science and I am passionate about translating the complex science of nutrition into practical advice that can improve health. I stay up to date with the current nutrition and health related research in order to provide evidence-based recommendations to my clients. I regularly take courses to increase my knowledge in different areas of nutrition practice.

My Practice Philosophy

Food is so much more than just nutrients! It's also flavour, joy, traditions, memories and culture. We eat for many reasons and food can also bring up complex emotions. Figuring out what to eat may sometimes feel overwhelming. Here you will find expertise and support in a judgement-free zone as we navigate nutrition and health together.

My approach to nutrition counselling is compassionate, holistic and backed by science. I provide personalized care that fits with your lifestyle, health goals and individual circumstances. My advice is practical and I love empowering clients to make changes they can keep long term.

I take a weight-inclusive approach to my practice. This means that I don’t equate weight with health as we have far better ways to measure health and wellbeing! Research has shown that repeated weight cycling can increase the risk of chronic disease and lead to poor health outcomes down the road. I love helping clients find a new way forward and implement changes that benefit both their physical and mental health.

Some Fun Facts About Me

Hiker sitting at the top of mountain enjoying the view

"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well,

if one has not dined well.”

-  Virginia Woolf

I was born and raised in Southern Ontario and my husband and I moved to Calgary, Alberta in 2023. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the beautiful outdoors and hiking in the Canadian Rockies is one of my favourite hobbies! Growing up near the Great Lakes, it may come as no surprise that I also enjoy walks by the water, or going stand-up paddle boarding.

I like cooking and experimenting with new recipes that are delicious and also practical. I love that food offers us opportunities for both nourishment and joy - this is one of the reasons I became a dietitian. Chocolate and homemade pizza are some of my favourite foods! I enjoy eating foods connected to my heritage (Mexican/Italian) as well as trying other cultural foods available in our beautifully diverse city. I am always interested in learning more about traditional foods, so please tell me about the foods you love!

Land Acknowledgement

In the spirit of reconciliation, I acknowledge that we are located on Treaty 7, the traditional homelands of the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut'ina, the Îyârhe Nakoda (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations), and the Otipemsiwak Métis. I acknowledge that the nutrition profession has contributed to the harm of First Nations, Metis and Inuit people in the past and present. In working towards reconciliation, I am committed to reducing harm by continuing to learn Indigenous history and values and unlearning harmful beliefs and practices. I also strive to create a safer space for marginalized communities, including respecting traditional foods and health practices and offering lower cost options to those in need.
